Meeting with representatives of the World Bank

A team of specialists from the World Bank (WB) arrived in Tashkent, headed by Sevara Melibayeva, who is a Senior economist on transport issues and at the same time a project leader,  to provide practical support to”Uzbekistan Airways” JSC in the framework of technical assistance to reform the aviation sector of Uzbekistan, provided during the second phases of reimbursable consulting services (ТС ВКУ-2) to the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The First Deputy Chairman of  “Uzbekistan Airways” JSC U. Khusanov greeted international experts with their arrival in Uzbekistan and thanked for holding meetings that are relevant today, in such an unstable epidemiological situation around the world. He also stressed the importance of these meetings for ensuring the quality and production of flights, including safety issues, and most importantly, in becoming a competitive airline.

The International experts noted that under this program, trainings will be conducted on improving and safety of flight quality, passenger service, as well as on drawing up financial forecasts in a more open field.

– The first work on reimbursable consulting services was completed in October 2019, as a result of which the government began active reforms in the aviation industry and the unbundling of the NAC companies. In January 2020, the government of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Transport decided to continue joint work to provide technical assistance in the implementation of the restructuring of newly created state-owned enterprises, such as ”Uzbekistan Airways” JSC and “Uzbekistan Airports” JSC. Together with experts and the management of “Uzbekistan Airways” JSC, we have prepared a business plan and a roadmap to start restructuring the airline. During the pandemic, we continued to work remotely. At the request of the airline's management, we were able to mobilize our team, and with the permission of our management to come to Uzbekistan, ”said Sevara Melibayeva, Senior Transport Economist at the World Bank and project leader to provide practical support to “Uzbekistan Airways” JSC in the framework of technical assistance on reforming aviation sector of Uzbekistan.

At the event, it was also noted about the measures taken to attract international-class experts in order to apply their experience in Uzbekistan, taking into account adaptation to local conditions.
