Effective 3 November 2026, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will introduce a mandatory requirement for all passengers travelling from foreign countries to the United States, including transit passengers, to complete an attestation.
What do passengers need to know?
-Each passenger is required to complete and sign a paper or electronic attestation confirming that they have not been present in the territory of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) during the 21 days preceding their departure to the United States.
-Transit through an airport in the DRC is considered presence in the country, even if the passenger did not leave the aircraft or the airport.
-For passengers under 18 years of age, the attestation must be completed and signed by a parent, legal guardian, or other duly authorised person.
-Passengers who fail to provide the required attestation will not be permitted to board the flight.
-Knowingly providing false information may result in criminal liability under the laws of the United States.
Passengers are advised to familiarise themselves with these requirements in advance and complete the attestation before arriving at the airport.
