Uzbekistan Airways discusses topical air transport development issues with international experts
On September 20, 2018 within the framework of the international conference named “Central Asia in the System of International Transport Corridors: Strategic Perspectives and Unrealized Opportunities”, Uzbekistan Airways held a sectional meeting on civil aviation devoted to topical issues of air transport development in Central Asia.
Over 60 foreign participants and guests of the conference, including representatives of international associations, agencies, air carriers, logistics companies, aviation authorities of Russia, France and other countries took part in it.
Bakhtiyor Khakimov, Director General, Uzbekistan Airways, greeted the sectional meeting. Welcoming the participants of the meeting, he noted: “Today, Tashkent has turned into an international expert platform for developing ideas and proposals to further develop transport projects in Central Asia. The President of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoyev, noting the development trends of regional cooperation at the conference named “Central Asia: One Past and Common Future, Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Mutual Prosperity”, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in November 2017, initiated a number of proposals for Central Asia, including the holding of this international forum on transport corridors in Tashkent. It should be noted that the population of Central Asia is growing every year and now it is already over 72 million people. The growth is also observed in the economic indicators of the region. As the profitability and population increase, in effective transport communications, and the unique geographical location of Central Asia between Europe and Asia allows to develop transport and logistics infrastructure. It serves as a driver in establishing effective linkages of international cooperation, including in the framework of the PRC “One Belt One Road” initiative. In this context, an important role is assigned to develop air transport as a catalyst for economic growth and development of the Central Asian countries towards increasing their transit and tourism capacities and mutual trade turnover.”
Further, according to the program of the meeting, the “Central Asia without Borders” video was shown about the Uzbekistan’s transport capacities. One has also showed a presentation named “Uzbekistan Airways: Strategic Perspectives and Unrealized Opportunities” aimed to further develop the international intermodal logistics center and the aviation industry in Uzbekistan as a whole.
At the event, reports were also made by the heads of international organizations. Vice-President of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Rafael Shvartsman showed his presentation named “Celestial Silk Road: Aviation – Its Influence on the Economy of Uzbekistan”. Secretary General of the International Air Transport Association TIACA Vladimir Zubkov spoke about the importance of air cargo in international trade. Mario Antonio, Regional Marketing Director, the Boeing Company, acquainted with the forecast of the Central Asian air transportation market and opportunities for their development in the region. Stefan Konkoli, Regional Sales Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Airbus, got acquainted with the forecast of the air transportation market in CIS. Ms Patti Chau, Regional Director, Airports Council International (ACI), revealed her topic “Airports – Ensuring a Safe and Sustainable Transport System”.
The participants of the meeting noted the importance of this event in developing common positions and approaches, to work out joint agreed decisions to develop a common regional transport and logistics sector.
As a result of the section session, Uzbekistan Airways and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) signed a Joint Action Plan for 2018-2025 aimed to further develop the aviation services sector in Uzbekistan, which includes measures to introduce modern standards and technologies at the airport in Tashkent for passenger services, to develop freight transport within the Navoi International Intermodal Logistics Center and to harmonize Uzbekistan’s airspace. Agreements were also signed on procedures for interaction and coordination of ATS units in Uzbekistan with the Tajik ATS (air transport system) and to cooperate with Azur Air on maintenance of its aircraft at Uzbekistan Airways Technic company.
